Combining traditional therapies with modern-day knowledge, Laura takes bodywork beyond massage.
Touch is one of our body's best ways of reconnecting with itself. Working with Laura will always involve safe and supportive touch. Depending on your condition, Laura will draw from a wide variety of bodywork techniques to leave you feeling your best.
Laura is trained in both Shiatsu and Tui Na massage. Shiatsu comes from the Japanese tradition and is a gentle form of massage which opens and realigns acupuncture meridians. Tui Na is a more aggressive form of touch from a Chinese lineage which can be used to treat a variety of health conditions.
In addition to incorporating massage into her treatments, Laura provides cupping and gua sha services. During cupping sessions, Laura uses glass cups like those pictured above to create vacuum suction against the skin. Cupping feels like an inside-out massage. Gua sha is a rubbing and pressing technique in which Laura will rub and press a porcelain spoon against areas of the body. Gua sha feels similar to an aggressive massage.
Both cupping and gua sha can be used to release muscle tension and detoxify the body, and are particularly effective in treating common colds.
